Who We Are

Bison Underground is veteran-owned, scientifically grounded, and built by a team that has spent years working through the hardest technical problems in scaling soil restoration to commercial deployment.

The team leverages a network of soil scientists, engineering consultants, and industrial fabricators to rapidly design, build, and test innovative concepts for soil restoration and water filtration. Bison Underground is currently conducting field experiments using a range of prototypes and methods.

Since founding in 2021, Bison Underground has won $250,000 from the $100M XPRIZE for Carbon Removal as one of five U.S. winners, finished in the top 25% globally in the follow-on $1M round, won the $50,000 OU Demo Day competition, and completed multiple competitive accelerator and incubator programs including the OU Tom Love Innovation Hub, i2E, OSU I-Corps, and CleanTech Open National Accelerator. The company has filed multiple trademark and patent applications covering tool design and method.



Geologist and Gardener

Dr. Steve Adams
Founder

Dr. Steven Adams is a veteran, first-generation college student, and received his PhD in Geology from the University of Oklahoma School of Geosciences. He studies the formation of dust-sized sediment particles by conducting experiments to replicate natural erosional processes, using devices he designed and built to replicate glacial grinding of rocks into dust and erosion of sand migrating in deserts. He has additional interests in planetary geology, geoscience education, and the application of geology to advance human efforts in sustainable development. Originally from Evansville, Indiana, after high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in an AV-8B Harrier II squadron maintaining tool accountability and as an Embassy Guard in Paraguay, Australia, and Rwanda, while attending classes online at American Military University. After being honorably discharged he continued school while living abroad in Namibia. Eventually he returned to the United States, where he received a BS in Geology from Indiana University and an MS in Geology from the University of Oklahoma.
